OF POSITION:

The Nauset Public School District seeks a dynamic administrator to lead the Stony Brook Elementary School located in Brewster, Massachusetts, a PreK through Grade 2 building serving all students in the town of Brewster and part of the Nauset Regional School District. Stony Brook houses an integrated PreSchool (with its own PreSchool Director), as well as the district’s K-2 sub-separate program for students with significant ASD (autism spectrum disorder). The Principal will oversee the day-to-day operations of the school and its facility, develop and manage the annual budget, and supervise and evaluate staff of the school. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with staff, families, and students to foster strong relationships, develop and maintain a positive school climate, and ensure high standards and support for all learners. Candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- A deep understanding of the purpose and importance of early childhood education;
- Experiences with meeting the diverse needs of all students including, early childhood, special education, EL students, and at-risk populations;
- Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in grades K-5 or equivalent experience;
- Related administrative experience, training, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Experience in effectively implementing school-wide social-emotional programs, PBIS systems, and tiered systems of supports;
- Strong decision-making, analytical and organizational skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build consensus and a positive school culture;
- Strong oral and written communication skills.

ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL: Provide outstanding leadership in all aspects of the Elementary School operation including curriculum, instruction, assessment, budget, personnel management, student services, and parent/caregiver/community involvement to ensure that all students grades achieve their greatest potential.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide instructional leadership of the highest caliber to ensure that instructional methods are rigorous, up-to-date, research-based, aligned with state standards, and consistent among and between all grade levels;
- Articulate, coordinate, implement and evaluate curriculum and instruction in grades PreK-2 that is rigorous, engaging, and designed to meet 21st century skills and exceed state and federal guidelines;
- Provide consistent support for teachers as they implement deeper learning opportunities such as project-based learning, across the curriculum;
- Supervise and evaluate staff effectively and efficiently and use conversation regarding classroom observations to foster overall improvement;
- Develop and oversee the school's budget so that it is focused on meeting the needs of every student;
- Maintain an inventory of school supplies, furniture, equipment, and books, and determine the needs in each of these areas for the purpose of preparing the annual budget;
- Supervise the preparation of the master schedule and propose class schedules and courses that provide robust opportunities for students to achieve at the highest levels;
- Lead efforts to use district, state, and federal testing and assessment programs, so that important and critical student performance data can be used to improve instruction and student achievement;
- Establish a vision for professional growth of the school's staff and work collaboratively with staff to plan and implement a high quality, ongoing system of professional development and training activities that will enhance staff knowledge and skills for the benefit of our students;
- Interpret school policy and work with parents, teachers, and citizens to promote the effective flow of communication and information on matters pertaining to the operation, successes, and needs at the school;
- Assist or direct as appropriate the coordination of ancillary services such as bus transportation and food services;
- Oversee building operations and facility maintenance including assistance with any maintenance or capital improvement projects;
- Work in partnership with all of the elementary principals and secondary principals so that there is a smooth transition from one school to the next to ensure that students are well prepared for the next level of their education;
- Work closely with student support service providers both inside and outside of the school so that students' emotional, social, and physical needs are met;
- Promote positive student behavior that is respectful, supportive, and conducive to the implementation of the instructional program;
- Organize and implement professional learning communities for teachers and other instructional staff that support high expectations and high student performance in all subject areas of the curriculum;
- Supervise the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and teaching models for English Learners and students with special education needs at the school;
- Understand the importance of global learning and seek to incorporate opportunities for students to become global citizens in the world;
- Plan and evaluate the implementation of various district initiatives such as Health & Wellness, Nauset Tiered System of Supports, Character Education, Second Step, and other social-emotional supports;
- Create and submit various federal, state, and local reports in an effective and timely manner;
- Oversee and approve any home-schooling plans submitted by parents for students in the grades represented at the school;
- Provide opportunities for the involvement and engagement of parents, volunteers, citizens, and community based organizations and businesses in the school as well as provide opportunities for students to engage in community service and community-based activities;
- Establish a School Council, act as its chair or co-chair and prepare the School Improvement Plan;
- Effectively implement the elements and focus areas of Nauset’s Strategic Plan;
- Oversee and involve the staff and parents, as appropriate, in the selection of new staff.
- Implement all labor contracts as written and foster positive relationships with leaders and members of the various bargaining units at the school;
- Attend meetings, including school committee meetings, and run committees as requested by the Superintendent;
- Direct the maintenance of all school records including health, grade reporting, assessment, and attendance;
- Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of all School Committee policies and regulations and directives of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent;
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Multi-year, individual contract. Compensation and benefits package to be negotiated.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with any requirements from the MA Department of Elementary & Secondary Education.
