DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT
OF POSITION:

The School Adjustment Counselor is responsible for implementing the school wide plan for creating a safe, social-emotional environment for students in order to help them institute positive changes and help them achieve their fullest potential. The School Adjustment Counselor helps children through individual casework, community resources, consultation with other school staff members, and continuous collaboration with parents, teachers, administration, and other non-instructional school staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
|
Licensed School Adjustment Counselor, plus three years of experience working with children and families in an individual or group setting in social services. Experience working with students with trauma, anxiety and/or oppositional disorders preferred. Good knowledge of school social work theory, practices, and public school environment; ability to apply professional skills to provide wide-range counseling, diagnostic and crisis intervention services at the full-proficiency level for general and special education students at the grade level or special education modality to which assigned; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and school personnel. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with students and families of diverse backgrounds. Ability to de-escalate highly emotional students and adults. A commitment to the belief that all children can succeed.
