This position requires employee work in outdoor and indoor environments, including but not limited to: offices, classrooms, school kitchens, and school gardens.

 

 

DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT

        OF POSITION:

The Farm to School (FTS) Program Coordinator supports Nauset Public Schools by expanding and coordinating Farm to School programming to enhance local food procurement, integrate farm-based education, and manage district farming systems in alignment with cafeteria needs. Key responsibilities include developing strategies to improve district farming systems, increasing regional food sourcing, and building partnerships with local farmers to expand locally sourced food options. The coordinator establishes and manages garden and greenhouse planting schedules to ensure year-round food production, organizes monthly student taste tests to diversify menu offerings, and oversees volunteer efforts to sustain summer garden operations. Additionally, the role fosters hands-on learning opportunities through food system education, connecting local agriculture with school communities while promoting sustainability and enriching student experiences.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate district farming efforts, including school gardens, the greenhouse, and hydroponic units, to maximize the use of district-grown crops.
Research and establish partnerships with farmers, distributors, and local businesses to source local and regional foods for the district.
Plan and deliver Farm to School (FTS) and nutrition education programs such as taste tests, field trips, workshops, and special events.
Oversee planting, maintenance, and harvesting schedules for the school garden and food forest.
Collaborate with the Director of Nutrition and Food Services to align menu planning with the availability of local food sources.
Participate in District Farm to School Committee meetings to support program goals and initiatives.
Support efforts to increase school meal participation by marketing FTS initiatives through cafeteria taste tests, educational materials, and community events.
Provide professional development for staff to integrate FTS education into classroom curricula.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
2 years of relevant experience
Additional Preferred Certification: Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)

 

 

 

Skills: The role requires strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse groups, including children, in a public school setting. Candidates should have knowledge of school food systems, federal meal programs, local food systems, sustainable agriculture, gardening, vegetable production, nutrition, wellness, and Farm-to-school programming, along with an understanding of K-12 education and curriculum integration. Strong written, organizational, and planning skills, as well as proficiency in computer use, are essential. Physical requirements include the ability to perform garden maintenance tasks, work outdoors, lift up to 50 pounds, and operate various tools and equipment:
